Ven Pongal
Ingredients for 2-4 adults
- Rice raw 2 cups
- Moong dal ( payatham paruppu) 1 cup
- Pepper - 1 tsp
- Jeera (cumin seeds) -1 ½ tsp
- Cashew broken - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves a few.
- Ginger - a few pieces ( optional)
- Ghee - 1 table spoon
- Cooking oil - 1 table spoon
Preparation method 1
- Wash the rice and dal together. Add 5 to 6 cups of water. Pour this in the rice cooker.
- In a kadai add one table spoon of ghee and one table spoon of cooking oil. Add the pepper, jeera, cashew, curry leaves, ginger and saute till the cashews become golden brown. Add these to the rice. Add salt to taste. Cook this.
Preparation method 2
- Cook the rice and the dal in a pressure cooker
- In a kadai add one table spoon of ghee and one table spoon of cooking oil. Add the pepper, jeera, cashew, curry leaves, ginger and sauté till the cashews become golden brown.
- Add the cooked rice and mix well.
