Uppuma Kozhukkattai - Pidi Kozukkatai -
உப்புமா கொழுக்கட்டை - பிடி கொழுக்கட்டை
Ingredients: ( for 20 kozukkattais)
- Raw rice 1 cup
- Water 2 and 1/2 cups
- Urad Dal ( ulundu) 2 teaspoons
- Channa dal ( kadalai paruppu) 1 teaspoon
- Jeera 2 teaspoons
- Red chillies 4 or 5
- Grated coconut 1/4 cup
- Oil 2 table spoons
Preparation:
- Grind the rice to a coarse consistency ( like rava)
- Powder the jeera, urad dal and chillies
- In a kadai heat the oil and put in the mustard and the channa dal.
- After the mustards splutters saute for a minute and add the water.
- When it starts to boil, add the powdered rice.
- Stir till the water evaporates and rice turns to loose dough.
- Take out the dough and roll into oval balls.
- Steam it in an idly cooker. ( make sure that the water in the cooker does not get into the rice balls)
Serve hot with Coconut chutney / onion chutney / tomato chutney / coriander chutney.
